Summer Professional Development Institute
Various workshops will be offered at the 2018 VTEEA Summer Professional Development Institute for technology and engineering educators. The Institute will be conducted in Alexandria, Virginia, on July 25-27, 2018. The Institute registration is open and teachers are encouraged to preregister early, as workshop space is limited. Please refer to Superintendent’s Memo 134-18 for more detail.
The technology education program provides experiences that lead to the development of technologically literate people. At the elementary school level, students are introduced to technology and begin learning to use it in the classroom. At the middle school level, students considering a career in technology may explore the subject in several overview courses. At the high school level, students take courses to prepare them for technical or professional programs of higher education, such as STEM careers, engineering or architecture.
Consistent with their abilities, interests, and educational needs, students completing a technology education program will achieve the following goals:
- Comprehend the dynamics of technology, including its development, impact, and potential.
- Employ the technological processes of problem-solving, creating and designing.
- Analyze the behavior of technological systems and subsystems, including the tools, materials, processes, energy, time, information, and people involved in systems.
- Apply scientific principles, engineering concepts, and technological systems in the processes of technology.
- Discover and develop personal interests and abilities related to a wide variety of technology-oriented careers.

(PDF) – This review represents a culmination of state and national research and extensive input from stakeholders representing business and industry, secondary and postsecondary educators, students, and professional organizations. Additionally, it reinforces the need for secondary education to be responsive to current and future trends in technology and engineering education.

Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO)
Provides the application and integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts through co-curricular instruction, leadership development, competitive events and related programs. For more information, visit the CTSO web page.
WBL is a school-coordinated, coherent sequence of on-the-job experiences that are related to students’ career goals and/or interests, are based on instructional preparation and are performed in partnership with local businesses, industries or other organizations in the community.
