Public Comment Period for K-12 Mathematics and History and Social Science Textbooks
On January 25, 2018, the Virginia Board of Education received for First Review of Proposed State Approved Textbooks for K-12 Mathematics and the First Review of Proposed State Approved Textbooks and Instructional Materials for K-12 History and Social Science.
The Virginia Board of Education is now seeking public comment on these textbooks and intends to review and approve lists of recommended textbooks for use in the public schools of the Commonwealth. Final lists of approved textbooks will be made available on the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) website following the Board of Education's action on the recommended textbooks in March 2018.
Review copies of the mathematics and history/social science textbooks submitted for the seven-year Standards of Learning revision cycle are available for public examination at various sites around the Commonwealth between January 29, 2018, and March 1, 2018.
The local examination sites include:
- The College of William and Mary
Old Dominion University
George Mason University
James Madison University
The University of Virginia's College at Wise
J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College
A list of specific contacts and locations for each of the review sites may be found on the VDOE website at Textbook Review and Approval: Location of Public Review Sites.
Individuals are invited to examine the proposed textbooks at the examination sites and to submit written comments. Comments on the proposed K-12 Mathematics and/or History and Social Science Textbooks may be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Comments may also be mailed to Tina Mazzacane, Mathematics Coordinator, Office of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, or Christonya Brown, History and Social Science Coordinator, Virginia Department of Education, P. O. Box 2120, Richmond, Virginia 23218-2120. The Virginia Department of Education will accept public comments from January 29, 2018 through March 1, 2018.
