The Virginia Modified Achievement Standards Test (VMAST) is an online alternate assessment designed for eligible students with disabilities. Students participating in the VMAST are expected to learn grade level Standards of Learning (SOL) content; however, they may require additional time and a variety of instructional and assessment supports. The achievement expectations for the VMAST have been modified, and the rigor of the assessments has been reduced by including supports and simplifications that allow participating students to access and demonstrate knowledge of grade level content.
As stated in Superintendent’s Memo #261-12, the VMAST reading assessments will be available to eligible students with disabilities in the spring 2013 administration and also during the fall, spring, and summer 2013-2014 administrations. The VMAST reading test blueprints, which are based on the SOL test blueprints, but include 20 percent fewer items, may be found on the Virginia Department of Education Web site at: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/testing/sol/standards_docs/english/index.shtml.
The blueprints indicate the content areas that are addressed by each test and the number of items that will be included by reporting category and for the test as a whole.
If you have questions, please contact the student assessment staff at Student_Assessment@doe.virginia.gov or (804) 225-2102.
