The Senior Executive Director for Research conducts objective analyses and scientifically-sound research in support of the agency’s strategic goals and objectives. Responsibilities of the director include strengthening relationships with a diverse group of research partners and translating research findings into actionable information for policymakers, educators, parents and students. The director also promotes a work environment whereby ongoing evaluation and improvement become routine activities and serves as the liaison for key research centers and activities.
Thomas Broyles – Director
The Director for Business and Risk Management promotes sound internal control policies and procedures. His responsibilities include implementation and compliance with the State Comptroller's Agency Risk Management and Internal Control Standards Directive, review and monitoring of audit-related issues including local education agency subrecipients. The director is also responsible for reviewing and ensuring compliance with the continuity of operations plan and investigations arising from the State Employee Fraud, Waste and Abuse Hotline.
The Community and Minority Affairs Liaison manages special initiatives on behalf of the state superintendent of public instruction and is responsible for developing and carrying out community engagement strategies that support public education in Virginia. The liaison coordinates outreach initiatives for the Virginia Department of Education and cultivates partnerships with community organizations and stakeholder groups to promote student success across the commonwealth. Additional responsibilities include representing the state superintendent of public instruction at meetings, conferences, and designated events as well as responding to education related constituent inquiries.
Brian Gibbs-Wilson – Chief Information Security Officer
The Chief Information Security Officer develops, manages and maintains the agency’s information technology (IT) security program in accordance with Commonwealth of Virginia IT security policies and standards. Responsibilities of the Chief Information Security Officer include building a strong interactive partnership with the school divisions in the area of IT security and assisting them in the development and implementation of IT security guidelines, plans, procedures and best practice recommendations.
